The Fuji f50 has an IOS of 6400!

The battery seems to last forever. I never

ran out of battery.

Very fast power up, 2 seconds and ready to shoot.

With 12 Mp, you can print out almost billboard size.

Overkill for just a screen shot on a PC and email.

About the size of a pack a ciggies.

Takes good videos, with sound.

For $299, hard to beat. If I didn't just buy my f31d, I would be buying this model.

ND > this little pocket camera focuses at clit level< ????

Are you talking about using it for close-ups?

The Fuji's Cavanami mentions are reportedly the best for available light, way ahead of the competition . BKKSW on Stickman's site did an article about them last year, but I don't remember if they focus close enough for the kind of pix ND is talking about.

if the camera is used for 'internet / computer' viewing & not printing the max reasonable output size is 1024x760, perhaps 1260x900 .. resolution of the majority of computer users.

I'm sure there are guys with 1900x1400(?) screen resolution but the majority of users would be scrolling scrolling scrolling.

printing poster sized prints is something I have seldom done, I am sure there are camera buffs that print 1900x1400 images daily.

features I decided were most important for my usage:

shutter lag .. digital camera shutter lag drives me crazy(ier)

&

optical zoom 10x - 12x

&

replaceable standard batteries -- picture of the day but dead battery is a pisser.

I've owned Olympus, Cannon & Konica digital cameras .. to my eye there was no difference in image quality.

but HUGE difference in focus speed & shutter lag

for sports / action photography:

my 3 year old konica z-3 has been a wonderful tool / toy.

quick zoom / focus & shutter lag under .1 sec

Thanks again for the helpful posts. I ended up buying a Canon PowerShot SD1000.

Good choice. Nice clean design, sharp lens, and quick startup times. It's also one of the few point & shoots that retain the optical viewfinder, a boon to shooting in bright conditions or for saving battery life.

I'm waiting for the price to drop below $200 ...
