qxguy
Any suggestions for a driver/guide to use for several days in Phuket. I want to travel from Patong to Phuket Town during the Vegetarian Festival for photos and other scenic locations. Thanks
Palatkik
Just step out of your hotel entrance and there will likely be hundreds of them? Depends what personal standards of safety you expect but rates will be negotiable.
unit731
We hired a car and driver the lazy way. Thru the hotel front desk. Good car. Good driver. We/he just drove us around island and where we wanted to go. Saw some nice private homes on very southern part of island.
Lamock Chokaprret
I recommend renting the car without the driver (less annoyances) and cruise yourself at your own pace. A good map makes it really easy to get around Phuket on your own and there isn't that much traffic (just sometimes). I've done it twice now (second time in my own car) and it really is the only way to see the island.
samak
major rental companies have branches at Patong; they bring the car to your hotel and pick it up. have done that staying in Le Meridien and that's not at Patong beach. and it is very easy to get around! but if you book at the hotel front desk, you pay 20-40% more! call directly! but be careful about all the crazy farang motorcylce drivers driving on the wrong side and cutting in from all sides! Lamock Chokaprret
Or book at the airport and save the transportation charge from airport to your hotel!

unit731
I'd say renting a car is a good idea also. One really can't get too lost on the island. Lot's of nice views and sights. As I stated, the southern part of the island is quiet and beautiful. Nice place to retire to for a day or eternity.
Barry
I'm thinking of hiring a car there.. What are conditions like? Is it the usual mayhem?
samak
road conditions on Phuket are over average in comparison to the rest of thailand. the only problem are the many foreign tourists going crazy on their rented motorbikes
