Indeed (and truth be told, I probably would've tried through an agent first too - especially if I thought there'd be trouble...). Sorry for the negative tone. And enjoy India when you do eventually go -- I remember in one of Bruce Chatwin's books, he's riding on the roof of a train or something in Africa and a guy asks him if he's ever been to India, and then asks what it's like. Chatwin explains that it's one of the most diverse and richest cultures in the world, a massive nation, and the guy says something along the lines of: Shit, no way! I thought it was a village!
