OK.....

Wrong thing to say but....

maybe how it is now is better than it will be if Burma breaks up ,

It seems that the military has been able to keep Burma together and working ,

But if they are gone will it turn into a cival war between all the groups ?

And will this spill over the borders with refugees starting "freedom fighter" camps, ready to go back and fight,

It seems so easy to say kick out the military , but what is going to replace it ?

I do not believe in the idea that democracy is best for everyone ,

OK , end of rant

<< It seems that the military has been able to keep Burma together and working >>

And your definition of working is???

Presumably Hitler's Germany and Mussulini's Italy would fit that description. And look at what happened when the commies fell from power in Moscow. Why the whole Soviet Union came unglued!

Worse than it is? There was a Burma for many centuries before the generals seized power.

Yugoslavia came apart because it was an artificial creation after WWI. Many of its parts had not wanted to be included in a "greater Serbia", since they weren't Serbs. The Soviet Union also united by force, including nations such as the Ukraine which had gained their independence after WWI and wanted to keep it.

Burma was supposed to be a federation, with self-rule for the Shans, Karens, Mons etc. The generals said no to that and installed a completely Burmese run government.
