Mentors
Burma still in fear and cut off /Rally Support of Junta A relentless crackdown on Myanmar's pro-democracy activists showed no sign of easing with the junta announcing yesterday that 78 more people have been detained in spite of global outrage and new sanctions. (...) The junta's propaganda machine, meanwhile, continued to claim massive rallies across the country, allegedly in support of the government. The paper said demonstrators denounced the recent protests "instigated" by some monks and members of democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi's party. http://news.independent.co.uk/world/asia/article3038413.ece

Mentors
Amnesty exposes Myanmar violence Human rights group Amnesty International has released new accounts of the violence and repression in Myanmar as the United Nation's special envoy called on Asian countries to offer incentives to the ruling military in exchange for democratic reforms. It has eyewitness accounts of the indiscriminate beating of demonstrators and bystanders, including children and monks, and filmed interviews with a number of people forced to flee to Thailand since last week's detention of six prominent activists. more: http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/6669908F-C444-4B1A-B141-CA302D40E233.htm
bust
I just heard that FIFA has cancelled their qualifying home game for the World Cup. It's a start. Japan has also cancelled some of it's aid program. I heard an interesting discussion the other day on Radio National about the motives behind China's reluctance to intervene. They do not want to support the protests as it may encourage their own to do the same. Both governments operate under similar beliefs and rule.
