gawguy
What is the best keylogger detector? I run AVG free and use XP firewall. I downloaded Spyware Doctor, but need to decide whether to pay for it or not. Would Spybot S&D do the job for free? Do you think AVG Free would detect a keylogger? Thanks, GG
khunsanuk
Hi, I don't think any of those will detect keyloggers. Try A-squared I think that might do the trick, but not sure. Sanuk!
wonderlust
I don't think it's a good idea to rely on free software if you're worried about getting infected with a keylogger. Kaspersky Internet Security is probably the best out there and not too expensive. http://www.kaspersky.com/kaspersky_internet_security
carlton68
Anti-Virus software does detect keyloggers as well. Here's a comparatives of different antivir products. I like the Avira Antivir Personal Classic as it as good as the premium version and free. If you suspect to have malware on your computer you may try a second antivir program. I installed AVG free as well, disabled the autostart entiries and services so it won't cause problems that may come from running two antivir guards at the same time. In addition I recommend Spybot ( I like the immunisation) and a-squared free. If you still have doubts you may try Spyware Doctor. No reason to buy it. Of course, if you want to shell out the money you may buy one of the many Internet Security all-in-one Suites that are around. It definitely needs less user-input and knowledge than using various freeware tools.
brottbyman
On a trial for Zone Alarm at the moment. Anti virus is free and the security center seems ok.
Weird
Try COMODO products, all free. If it's your own personal computer that only you have access too, detecting a keylogger is not necessary, only detecting when it's try to send out. : )
liquidflux
I'm assuming all these AV programs are meant to catch software based keyloggers. What about the type that plug in between the keyboard and the CPU?
wonderlust
I don't think a piece of equipment like that is in widespread use outside of espionage circles.
wonderlust
I never realised that common keyloggers can detect Microsoft Virtual Keyboard keystrokes so if you rely on that it's useless. Here's some useful software to protect you on a public computer: http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2007/09/20/how-to-beat-keyloggers-to-protect-your-identity/
