longwoodguy74
Hey Guys, Wondering if any of you guys could share a little wisdom with me? Quick question: Given the crap exchange rate of the USD these days, what is the best way to exchange money in LOS - bring large bills and exchange cash in Thailand...or use your US ATM card at Thai ATMs? I'm aware of a differential in offshore versus onshore exchange rates. Not sure which rate you get using an ATM card?? Apologies if this has been covered before. Cheers, LWG
wonderlust
You should get the onshore rate but whether that's better than changing cash depends on your bank. Check what their foreign usage fee is (usually 2-3% factored into the exchange rate) and a fixed fee for use of an ATM.
unit731
They are making the new US paper currency with tiny bits of lead. This is the reason why the dollar sinks in water. Take any paper currency, drop a paper bill from a hotel window. The US dollar will drop the fastest. It's the lead, dummy !
cavanami
$500 USD traveler's checks are best. $100 USD bills are next best. ...then $100 USD traveler's checks The best shop to xchange the $100 USD bills was down a little soi off Soi 22 Suk, near Hotel 27. Bangkoktraveler
Traveler's checks are best. You might be able to get them without a fee but remember it cost 33 baht to cash in a $100.00 traveler's check. Use American Express. There are a few odd ball traveler checks they will not take.
