rickfarang
Un-friggin-beleiveable. How can such icons of evil come to be something to be idolized? Just after our marriage, I was struck that my wife had never heard anything about the second world war, let alone Adolph Hitler or the Holocost. Apparently, European history is not taught in Thai schools any more than Asia history is taught in American schools. Those who fail to learn from history... Flashermac
<< Western diplomats, especially Germans and Israelis, have complained heavily, pointing out that Asians suffered during World War II under occupation by Japan, Nazi Germany's ally. >> And the students aren't taught that either. Flashermac
You wouldn't believe how little of any history and geography Thai students are taught. The real thickie here was the teacher who came up with the idea. Maybe next year they can use the Rape of Nanking for the theme.

I was taught Asian history, as part of World history, in an American high school. It was mostly the history of India, China, and Japan. Not as in depth as European and American history, but it was taught.
