Famous Grouse
To combat police secrecy over foreign deaths in Thailand ThaiVisa should have a breaking news section where members can report any such incident in their own area! Flashermac
Plenty of Farang deaths in Pattaya never get mentioned in The Nation or Bangkok Post. The Nation is a bit better about it than the Post though.

Famous Grouse
Example: this week the body of an Irish girl was found floating in the sea off Koh Samui. She had head injuries (which were probably caused by rocks) This girl Linda was on holiday alone on Koh Samui. The Thai police never alerted anybody to her death. Nothing in the press. When they were contacted they reacted angrily to press enquiries. The feeling is they care more about the tourist baht. Eventually the news was released by the girls' family in Ireland. A tourist volunteer had notified the Irish authorities. They issued a statement saying she was swimming with friends who tried to save her. But we know she was alone. Bear in mind a report in the Guardian after Katherine Horton's murder on Koh Samui 2 years back. They interviewed a local who insisted he overheard police saying on their radio something along the lines of 'we can say she drowned'. Famous Grouse
Admin: Is it worth starting a thread on this. Here is the wrong place I think. Or is the thread started already?
Flashermac
A few years ago a long time friend and ex-neighbour's body washed up on the beach at Rayong. He was retired from the UN and possibly even known to you. The guy had left his home in Bangkok to go to a market the day before. So why was him in Rayong? Was was he in the ocean? Why had he been stripped of any identification and why was wearing a t-shirt that did not belong to him and was several sizes too big? The police did an autopsy and said he had drowned. No conclusions beyond that. As it happened, his body was found the same day as that Russian gang robbed a bank in Pattaya, killing an off duty policeman at the bank. The Russkies were captured after a sea chase. They all had shaved heads and wore black t-shirts. The friend who washed ashore had a shaved head and was dressed in a black t-shirt. Suspicious? Nah, not to the police. Never mind that the guy hated the ocean and that would probably be the last way he would choose if he wanted to do himself in. His widow still is waiting for an answer.
