Remembering The Great Ukraine Famine

On Saturday, Ukraine marks the 75th anniversary of the terrible famine of 1932-33, engineered by Soviet authorities to force peasants across the former U.S.S.R. to give up their privately held plots of land and join collective farms. Millions perished.

Estimates of the number of people who perished in Holodomor differ, but there is no doubt the death toll was horrific. Yushchenko estimates 10 million Ukrainians died, while Stanislav Kulchitsky, a Ukrainian historian, believes the number is closer to 3.5 million.

Strange how Stalin is revered by a lot of Russians.

The usual figure given is at least 7 million dead. It's no surprise that Hitler's troops were welcomed as liberators by the Ukrainians, who hunted down Soviet commissars, toppled statues of Lenin and hung flowers around the necks of Nazi soldiers. If Hitler hadn't been such a racist idiot, he'd have welcomed Ukrainian support - and with it almost certainly have defeated Stalin.

True Hitler got a lot of help from Ukrainian Nationalists. They were probably more anti-semitic than the average German soldier..

A lot of the anti-Semitism is supposd to have come from the fact that so many of the Soviet commissars were Jews. It's a seldom mention fact that Jews were in the Communist Party in greater numbers than they represented in the Soviet population.

As I recall, it was Kaminsky's Brigade of Soviet national SS volunteers that committed some of the worst of the atrocities in putting down the Warsaw Ghetto rising.

What wikipedia has to say:

The times of industrialization and Holodomor also coincided with the Soviet assault on the national political and cultural elite often accused in "nationalist deviations". These policies of Ukrainization were reversed at the turn of the decade. Two waves of purges (1929â??1934 and 1936â??1938) resulted in the elimination of four-fifths of the Ukrainian cultural elite.

p.s. What a strange site. Did Putin put it up? Everyone is bad except the Russkies. Denial of another Holocaust???

Bunch of neo-coms it looks like. Historically Jews have never been trusted in Eastern Europe...if they aren't communists they're capitalists. Seem to do OK in Russia these days though as long as they pay their taxes.
