chuckwoww
It's interesting that they only picked him up on the African smuggling charges. Mr.Bout must know a lot more about the international arms/drugs/rendition trade than that.

Fidel
One of Bout's many companies is providing logistical support to U.S. forces in Iraq, well-placed French diplomatic sources say. His private airline British Gulf is supplying goods to the occupation forces, they say. In recognition of these services both the U.S. and the British governments have been opposing French efforts to include Bout in the UN mercenaries list, the diplomatic sources revealed. chuckwoww
Working for Halliburton AND supplying weapons to the Taliban? Well I suppose Halliburton can always say they thought the planes belonged to someone else. That's what those highly paid lawyers are for.
Fidel
After September 11, Viktor Bout was suspected of having furnished weapons to bin Laden, who was then sheltered by the Taliban. That didn't stop the United States, according to a source from the Belgian secret service, from entrusting him with arms shipments to the Northern Alliance, then at war against the Taliban. Since then, he had reappeared in Somalia at the head of a new airline and weapons supply company. Iraq at this rate is just one more episode. "That's the problem with Viktor, he always has some authority that protects him, because he does too many favors," the investigator sighs. It only gets better Supplying BIN LADEN and working for the US?

Fidel
Well he's done Pakistan and Afghanistan. Air Cess was registered in Islamabad: Two companies, Air Cess and Flying Dolphin, take over most of Arianaâ??s traffic. Air Cess is owned by the Russian arms dealer Victor Bout (see Mid-1996-October 2001), and Flying Dolphin is owned by the United Arab Emiratesâ?? former ambassador to the US, who is also an associate of Bout. In late 2000, despite reports linking Flying Dolphin to arms smuggling, the United Nations will give Flying Dolphin permission to take over Arianaâ??s closed routes, which it does until the new sanctions take effect. Boutâ??s operations are still functioning and he has not been arrested. Source BUT IT GETS BETTER: HALLIBURTON CONTRACTOR SHIFTING HEROIN FOR US GOVERNMENT Bout has worked with some American security consulting firms since 1994 and was instrumental in placing the Russian mafia in working relationships with some of them. In the Caucuses, , which has had a history of involvement in the drug traffic, has been working with Far West , Ltd. He added that Far West indirectly cooperates with the US government, and these ties to Far West, Ltd in recent years seem to have the apparent approval of the CIA. Far West is a major Russian mafia operation that provides security consulting and transportation services. It also moves arms and drugs. From 1991 to 2003, Far West is said to have moved 300 tons of heroin into Western Europe. Vladimir Filin, head of Far West, told a Russian interviewer that his firm was co-founded by an important American corporation. He added that Far West indirectly cooperates with the US government. We cooperate with the American side in the sphere of commercial transportation not on the basis of direct commercial contracts between our agency [Far West, Ltd.] and the U. S. government, but through the intermediary company co-founded by the agency and a private U.S. company, which in its turn also interacts with the U.S. government. Steve
I can see an opening for Laos ... in the international criminal segment of the tourist trade. No, not me. When I become an international fugitive, I'm heading to Brazil. Women and they still have a handful of nazi war criminals that still haven't been caught yet. A great track record for anyone wanting to hide out.
