Flashermac
A Malaysian board I visit sometimes has been going on about the election for days. Maybe people are waking up? Nah ... but a few of them are.
..
Tis a beautiful thing. I've had firsthand reports from a few Malaysian friends, who are all *very* happy with the results. A very good thing indeed! Cheers, SD -- a big fan of Malaysia, even the past few years (but moreso now)
Fidel
Yeah, I agree that this is a welcome development. I've been there a few times, mostly on visa runs, but over a year ago I went for a 10 day workshop on Human Rights. I have to say... Malaysians are very cool people. What a mix! Native Malays, South Asians, Chinese. Most people seem very well educated and fiery.

Mentors
but i'm not shure about the result of the election, looks just as a good result for the 'Stone Age' Islamist Party PAS.
..
Actually PAS has backed off of their "stone-age-ness" and realized that they must play nice with everyone. PAS know they only won because of the Indian and Chinese votes, they changed their style to court them, and they won't kill the golden goose. Why is this? Interestingly, it was UMNO/BN who were going around promoting radical Islam and Malays only and destroying non-Muslim religious sites while PAS was even donating land for the Hindus to build a temple.
