Pom Michael
I also use Xpress Boarding every time - the front row of seats are saved. I refuse to wait in the line standing around - and also refuse to put on their Xpress Boarding stickers - so normally just wait until they call for boarding and walk to the front. In other locations (Penang, Kuala Lumpur) they have separate lines or doors - makes it much more civilized.

drogon
Yes it is business...Do not want to travel in coach. And unfortunately there are no premium economy from Madrid and no more seats from Amsterdam or Frankfurt. -> yes business but I checked the prices this morning again and the cheapest comes at 2600 something on luftwaffe.... Will maybe get lucky in 2-3 weeks but I doubt it
samak
I simply fly too much and need my gold status: value for gold status on TG has deterioriated during last 10 years IMO! - hardly any free upgrades anymore; only if eco is overbooked and they need your seat while biz has still some available ones - check in at Suvannaphum on eco ticket not in biz class area anymore with fast immigration track; longer queues for biz class/gold card at many airports - overcrowded lounge in Suvannaphum; last friday evening hardly any free seat in lounge in D Terminal - more miles needed for free flight rewards etc.
drogon
Yes, I found a Thai airways flight leaving the 12th from Madrid at 2700. Hope there will be some seats left in 2 weeks though.
