Damen
These 9 judges.. Do they normally vote along the same lines? Is it always the same 5-4 verdict with the same judges on each side? There is definitely a political slant to their overall voting records on hot button issues. Judges appointed by a Democratic president tend to liberal in their rulings, while Judges appointed by a Republican president tend to be more conservative. The key is that any appointment made by a president must be approved by the Senate. That provides some balance from any justice to far left/right from getting appointed when different parties have control of the White House & Senate. When one party controls the Presidency and the Senate however, they can fill a vacant position in the court with a justice who is likely to push that parties agenda with their rulings.
