The_Munchmaster
The life support keeping Australian Ian Colley alive was turned off yesterday. He arrived in Dubai last week for a job interview and before attending the interview he went to check out the school that he was planning to send his kids to, which happens to be behind my office. After leaving the school he went to cross the road but looked the wrong way and was hit by a car. He suffered major injuries including brain damage and was kept on life support while doctors monitored his condition. He had only been in Dubai for 4 hours when he was hit. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Flashermac
Damn. Reminds me of the fate of a well known American professor of Thai history around 20 years ago. The guy had been flown in to give a series of lectures and checked into a hotel on Petchburi Road. Less than half an hour later, he went outside and was struck and killed by a city bus. No doubt tired from the long flight, he must have forgotten that Thais drive on the left. He looked the wrong way ... and stepped in front of the on-coming bus. Julian2
I used to do it in the PI all the time. Fortunately I was larger than a lot of the cars so the drivers did their best to avoid me.

CTO
Very sad - just last week I stopped a visiting Canadian from stepping in front of a car in Sillypore - very common - and very sad for his family.
Flashermac
I was back in the States and pulled out of a car park ... and started driving on the left hand side of the road! I drove about a block before I saw cars coming at me and realised what I was doing!

Flashermac
I discovered long ago in Bangkok to look BOTH ways before crossing, even on one way streets.

bust
That's just so sad.....I think it happens more than we realise. Remember when Sheik Maktoum died while he was here on the Gold Coast I think.
