Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia lapped her competition to win the gold medal in Women's 5000m at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in a time of 15:41.40.

Dibaba also won the Women's 10000m gold medal at Beijing 2008. Dibaba fell short of her own WR time of 14:11.15 that she set in this June

In a rematch of the Men's Football Final of 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Argentina beat Nigeria 1-0 in today's final to win its 2nd consecutive gold medal in Olympic football. Argentina was the better side in early part of the 1st half but Nigeria began to threaten the South American team in the latter part
