Disputed temple Preah Vihear named world landmark

A point of interest...er maybe, this was the last part of Cambodia to fall to the Khmer Rouge, and was the last area liberated from the KR as well. It is, or was reputed to be one of the most heavily mined (as in exploding landmines) areas in the world (at the time anyway). Thus raising the question...do the Thais really want it back that badly?

I read on a Khmer friendly board, they are building a road up to KPV from the Khmer side, no ideas when it is expected to be finished (they can't even pave the road between Poi Phet and Siem Reap, and that is a money maker).

Other plans call for a cable car, and a casino resort...or so the rumor goes, no ideas who will go there...or why kind of off the beaten track.

It logically belongs to Srisaket, and indeed was part of the province for centuries - up to the World Court decision. The Thai Minstry of Fine Arts had done numerous studies on it and even some restoration. All the Cambodians have done is charge money to see it, not counting when the Khmer Rouge used the statues for target practice.

It was indeed the last place to be taken by the Khmer Rouge. When they finally managed to climb up the cliff, the garrison just ran down he steps into Thailand.
