Koh Lanta

Want to go here peak time (december, over christmas) for maybe 2 or 3 weeks...

2 hotels I'm interested in...

Pimalai

Or Layana

Anyone stayed at either of these? Had any bad experiences. I've read the online bullshit and Pimalai seems to have a bad rep for its food...

The islands most expensive is Cha-da...but I don't see what you get for so much more...

Any info or recommendations welcome...just need to decide soon as I know these places will fill up soon.

Thankyou.

Staying near the southern end of the island might get you away from the throngs of Scandinavians that have virtually taken over the island's moderately-priced places closer to Saladan.

We've been spending time there each winter for the last few years as that is my wife's birthplace (Old Lanta Town), but the island has lost much of its appeal to me as it has modernized and become a haven for the package tourists with rug-rats in tow. Seems as if the whole of Scandinavia boards a direct flight to Krabi, then is spirited away to Lanta by minibus, leaving little room for the rest of us...

there are not so many resorts.

Amari has one at the beach; then there are a couple of resorts on the islands like Koh Mook, Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai

i went two times to Trang but already a couple of years ago; as i went by car i stayed downtown. many nice islands (emerald cave island!), beaches, limestone rocks, waterfalls and caves.

but don't expect a tourist infrastructure like Patong or even Ao Nang in Krabi!
