Faustian
Want to go here peak time (december, over christmas) for maybe 2 or 3 weeks... 2 hotels I'm interested in... Pimalai http://www.lantalanta.com/Pimalai%5FResort%5FSpa/ Or Layana http://www.lantalanta.com/Layana%5FResort%5FSpa/ Anyone stayed at either of these? Had any bad experiences. I've read the online bullshit and Pimalai seems to have a bad rep for its food... The islands most expensive is Cha-da...but I don't see what you get for so much more... http://www.lantalanta.com/Cha%5FDa%5FBeach%5FResort%5FAnd%5FSpa/ Any info or recommendations welcome...just need to decide soon as I know these places will fill up soon. Thankyou.
Guy Himmaparn
Staying near the southern end of the island might get you away from the throngs of Scandinavians that have virtually taken over the island's moderately-priced places closer to Saladan. We've been spending time there each winter for the last few years as that is my wife's birthplace (Old Lanta Town), but the island has lost much of its appeal to me as it has modernized and become a haven for the package tourists with rug-rats in tow. Seems as if the whole of Scandinavia boards a direct flight to Krabi, then is spirited away to Lanta by minibus, leaving little room for the rest of us...
Faustian
Well I guess the places I've cited aren't moderately priced, they are the 3 most expensive hotels, so I might avoid the problems you mention...? Maybe I'll look elsewhere....any other places people know of in the Krabi area?
samak
why not go to Trang a bit further south! phantastic landscape and some nice islands. not many foreign tourists!
Faustian
Anywhere you'd recommend around there?
dullnight
Read many times about Trang but didn't go yet. Looking for an easy to reach from BKK week end destination. Are there beach hotels/resorts within a short drive distance from the airport you might recommend?
samak
there are not so many resorts. Amari has one at the beach; then there are a couple of resorts on the islands like Koh Mook, Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai i went two times to Trang but already a couple of years ago; as i went by car i stayed downtown. many nice islands (emerald cave island!), beaches, limestone rocks, waterfalls and caves. but don't expect a tourist infrastructure like Patong or even Ao Nang in Krabi! dullnight
Thanks. I guess it's a sound idea to rent a car upon arrival. Loved the area around Krabi, and read Trang is as nice - just need to find some kind of driving license in case they ask at the rental office
Guest lazyphil
or even further south to langkawi in malaysia
dullnight
Southern Thailand landscape is very impressive, crossed the country a couple of times by Bus going to Malaysia. It's been a few years though, quite possibly time to go back .
