Coup?

Hi,

I don't particularly hate Islam (any more than other organized religions :) ), but really don't like all this walking on eggshells when dealing with Muslims, especially since the Muslim nations are one of the most intolerant countries when it comes to religion (and loads of other stuff).

Sanuk!

The following announcement was just found on the TA-website:

THAI Flies Thai Muslim Pilgrims to Mecca

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited will operate a special flight for Thai Muslim pilgrims to their annual hajj pilgrimage in Mecca from Hat Yai Airport.

ACM Narongsak Sangapong, THAIâ??s Executive Vice President, Corporate Secretariat Department and Acting President, said that due to the Airports of Thailand (AOT)â??s announcement of the closure of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang International Airport since 27 November 2008, a number of Thai Muslim pilgrims were stranded at Suvarnabhumi and Hat Yai Airport.

Today (28 November 2008) THAI will operate a special flight, TG8534, on the route Hat Yai â?? Jeddah, utilizing Airbus A300-600 aircraft. Flight TG8534 will depart Hat Yai Airport at 15.35 hrs and arrive Jeddah at 22.14 hrs (local time).

The government is in exile!

Bangkok Post

28 Nov 2008

Somchai moves government to Chiang Mai

Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat will remain in the northern city of Chiang Mai "indefinitely" [color:red]because of tensions with the military[/color], a government spokesman said.

Somchai was forced to land in Chiang Mai after a trip abroad on Wednesday when anti-government protesters seized control of Bangkok's two airports.

He declared a state of emergency at the airports on Thursday night as rumours of a possible military coup swept the capital, although the Army said it was not intervening.

"As there are still uncertainties in the tensions between the government and Army, for his safety the prime minister will stay in Chiang Mai," government spokesman Suparat Nakbunnam said.

"He has no schedule to return to Bangkok, he will stay in Chiang Mai indefinitely for his security," Suparat said.

Govt to enlist help from Thaksin if coup staged

By The Nation

The government will enlist help from former prime minister Thasksin Shinawatra if a coup is staged against the administration, Government Spokesman Natthawut Saikua said Friday. He said thaksin would make phone calls to direct the resistance against the coup on around-the-clock basis.

"If a coup is staged, thaksin will fight against it along side with Thais. He can make phone calls to us 24 hours a day," Natthawut said.

He said the government was not afraid the coup but it waited for a right moment before taking actions against the protesters, who were besieging the two commercial airports in Bangkok.

Spokesman claims Govt wins support to use force to end Bangkok airports' besieging

Natthawut also claimed that the government has won both international human rights organisations and foreign diplomats' support for use of force to end the besieging of Suvarnabhumi International Airport and Don Mueang Airport.

Natthawut said the International Community would not mind the use of force against protesters as long as the government must first evacuate over 3,000 stranded tourists from the airports first.

"I am informed by a non-governmental organisation that the international human rights organisations and foreign diplomats want the government to evacuate over 3,000 tourists to safety first then the government can do anything with the protesters. They will not oppose or question the government about it actions against the protesters," Natthawut said.

อt is clear that the International Community does not support the PAD but the government will try to adhere to peaceful measures."

He said the use of force would be the last measure the government would resort to.

to follow up on KS brilliant questions as well as other constructive stuff I will offer this:

airport - electricy, water & other basic utilities is still on because it's available & although I'm confident very few if any actual passengers are 'stranded' on site by now I would guess cutting off supplies will be a very bad move that even AOT suffering huge losses will not use even if they could?

democrats/lame ducks - well it's all part of the game unfolding isn't it? say the democrats actually suddenly jumped on the populist/thugs bandwagon & actually had the funds for it would vacating the airport with bribes potentially lead them to victory - say come next election?

one guy suggested calling in the police & clear the place (or doing it by any other legal means)? well if the government is not able to how the fuck would the opposition be able to do just that :dooh:?
