TroyinEwa/Perv Posted September 10, 2008 Report Share Posted September 10, 2008 Samak may not be 'suitable as PM' : Yongyuth By The Nation A hundred or so MPs from the People Power Party met yesterday and later it was hinted that Samak Sundaravej might not be suitable for the job of prime minister. The meeting, chaired by former PPP deputy leader and ex-House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat, was attended by about half of the party, which has 223 MPs. Yongyuth told reporters that they had discussed the country's situation, particularly the question of who would be best as prime minister after the Constitution Court disqualified Samak on Tuesday. "We, as members of the party, think that if we get caught in power traps, we will not be able to see the real problems. The country will plunge deeper if we continue to be rivals," Yongyuth explained. Yongyuth was appointed to convey this message to Samak. "We believe that Khun Samak is good and straightforward. However, we should not make it a personal matter as the country's problems have to be settled urgently," Yongyuth said, insisting that the next prime minister would definitely be from PPP. He added that Friday was too early to nominate a new premier, and that the parliament session to discuss the matter should be postponed until next month. He said the PPP would meet again today to discuss the best candidates for the PM's job. [color:blue]Is this man, Samak, still the leader of their party?? CTO Posted September 11, 2008 Report Share Posted September 11, 2008 Yeah - he was No 1 in Mahochon - but since joining Chart Thai has gone to No 2. Interesting as Mahichon was the No 2 party in many parts of Isaan after TRT. Did quite well at times in smaller elections. He is being very quiet - I suspect sitting back to see what happens next. Mentors Posted September 11, 2008 Report Share Posted September 11, 2008 Sanan Kachornprasart has the right reputation. :smirk: In 2000 former Deputy Premier and Secretary-General of the former Democrat government was banned from politics (for 5 years) by Constitution Court for asset concealment. Shortly before the election in 2001, it was found that Thaksin Shinawatra had earlier failed to include in his statutory declaration of assets, billions of baht that happened to be listed in the names of his housemaid, driver, cook, and gardener. Incredibly the same Constitution Court that convicted Sanan Kachonprasart accepted Thaksin shinawatra's ludicrous defense that he made an "honest mistake" in his statutory asset declaration and absolved Thaksin of guilt by 8:7 split vote.
