hawaiijohn
Most optical stores in BKK are not that much cheaper than US prices. Is there a place to get inexpensive prescription glasses in Bangkok or Chiang Mai?
jon46
Here in the US, prescription sun glasses are expensive on the order of buying prescription glases which may range in excess of $150, depending on the frame. A number of years ago, I purchased a frame from MBK and took it to an optical shop for prescription lenses. The total cost was about $16, including frame. I believe at the time, the exchange rate was more like 42 baht to the US dollar. I believe the key is buying a frame and that many frames are imported and is expensive. Lenses by comparison are inexpensive unless you need high index lenses.
unit731
I don't know where you shop but my prescription glasses with tint, scratch resistant lens, and frame run from US $35.00-$45.00. I purchase a pair on every trip. Only one pair has worn out - the frame - and was replaced free 3 years later at same shop on Sukhumvit. One pair purchased in Phnom Penh for US $16.00. I have too many glasses now. But I tend to misplace them so good to have extra. I have all shapes and colors. Dark green tint, light blue tint, light red tint and clear. Stick to the shops that make the lenses on site and have employee that can adjust them.
