Rumours point to Schumi return

Speculation is rampant that German Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher will come out of retirement and once again take the wheel for Ferrari.

The rumours come three days after the Italian team’s driver Felipe Massas fractured his skull after an accident while qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday at the Hungaroring near Budapest. The Brazilian was hit in the head by an 800-gramme suspension spring that came off of Brawn-Mercedes driver Rubens Barichello’s car.

Massas lost consciousness and drove into a tyre wall before being pulled from the vehicle and rushed to hospital.

The 28-year-old is still in critical condition but stable while in a medically-induced coma.

Ferrari is now scrambling to find another superstar to maintain their chase against McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton, who took the title at Sunday’s race. With the Valencia Grand Prix in Spain coming up in three weeks, the team is looking for someone to drive in the Massas’ place.

“Ferrari now needs Schumi to replace Massas and Michael is considering it,†reported the Italian newspaper Gazetto dello Sport.

Latest from the BBC:

<< Felipe Massa's condition is "severe but not critical" after surgery on his fractured skull, but there is concern about damage to his left eye.

The Ferrari driver's surgeon confirmed Massa's eye was injured when a spring from Ruben Barrichello's car hit him in qualifying in Hungary on Saturday.

[color:red]"We don't know if he'll be able to race again. It's too early to say about his future," added surgeon Robert Veres.[/color]

"But the immediate life-threatening condition has been averted." >>

BMW to Leave Formula One by Year’s End

MUNICH (AP)  German car maker BMW is pulling out of Formula One at the end of this season.

The company announced the decision at a news conference Wednesday.

BMW will remain involved in motor sport but not in Formula One.

BMW was involved in F1 in the 1980s before pulling out, returning as an engine supplier to Williams in 2000. It took over the Sauber team in 2005.

Its only Formula One win was in the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix and has had a disappointing 2009 season.

Japanese car maker Honda pulled out of F1 ahead of this season.

with this decree, the lifework of Peter Sauber is also in danger. :(
