samak
Looking at the schedule it looks like its actually 38hrs after leaving bangkok. the 14 hours (or actually 13 hours as Malaysia is one hour ahead) could only be done with a high speed trains; but trains are very slow, in particular in Thailand! imperial
train leaves BKK at 2:45pm arrives at 6:30 or so the next morning, 850 baht bus leaves Hat Yai every hour or so (many bus companies not government owned and takes 8-9 hours including going thru border immigration for Thailand and Malasia, 500 baht or so for the 550 or so KMs Taxi from long distance city bus center where they drop you off 70-90 ringitt (700-900 baht) for these 60km so if you are real lucky and catch a bus quick you "could" do it in 28 or so hours
