Flashermac
Bangkok Post 9 Apr 2009 News teams under attack UDD supporters have repeatedly attacked reporters covering their rally, accusing them of misrepresenting the number of protesters taking to the streets. A Channel 3 team was reporting from a corner of the Si Sao Thewes intersection in front of the Devaraj Kunchorn temple yesterday when they were cursed at by members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship. The team estimated that about 50,000 protesters were marching on the Si Sao Thewes home of Privy Council president Prem Tinsulanonda. The Red Shirts insisted there were many more. The Red Shirts were about to assault the news team when Pol Maj Gen Vichai Sungprapai of Metropolitan Police Bureau 1 stepped in to mediate. The TV team was led from the scene, but not before Red Shirt protesters punctured the tyres of their car. In a separate incident, a Channel 7 team was attacked by red shirts after reporting their number in the tens of thousands. Protesters cursed the team, hurled water bottles at them and splashed them and their equipment with water. A Channel 9 news team was driven from the rally site by Red Shirts who complained its crowd estimates were too low. Red Shirt leaders asked the team to leave as there was a possibility the mob would turn violent. The Thai Broadcast Journalists Association and the Thai Journalist Association both said yesterday the UDD's insistance that the attacks were carried out by a "third party", not its supporters, was simply not true. Flashermac
Fanta(sy) Daeng << Deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra last night phoned in to extend moral support to the demonstrators and asked them to stay put for three more days. "Tell your children to come," he told the crowd. "There is something here. Stop going to the mall for a couple of days and lay the foundation for future generations. "I do not care whether I can return, I do not care. I cannot allow the country to go on like this. "Let me be the last victim of the brutality of the bureaucratic polity." Thaksin also spoke in English to appeal to the international media, saying the fight was not about him but about the country and democracy for the people and the future of humanity. Mr Abhisit yesterday rejected calls for him to resign and lashed out at the UDD for their flip-flop demands, saying they first called for a House dissolution and now his resignation. >> Bangkok Post

Mentors
Thai protesters give PM deadline to step down BANGKOK, Thailand (CNN) -- Anti-government protesters have issued a Thursday deadline for Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to step down. [color:blue]If their ultimatum isn't accepted by 4 p.m. (5 a.m. ET), the protesters will intensify their efforts to destabilize the government, said Jatuporn Prompan, one of the protest leaders.[/color] Jatuporn did not elaborate on the threatened measures. Abhisit has said he cannot comply with the protesters' demands, calling them confusing and unclear. Thailand is in the midst of a political crisis, with thousands of "red shirt" protesters amassed outside government headquarters. The protesters, named for their clothing, say Abhisit was not democratically elected. They want him to schedule elections. http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/04/09/thailand.protests/

Flashermac
I just got chewed out by my Mrs for criticising the Red Shirts. She told me, "You don't understand! I studied political science." Umm ... she had a couple of classes. My BA degree is in poli sci. p.s. She also expects things to get violent, since the Reds keep upping the ante.
