Guest lazyphil
bkk shopping malls, in particular 'the mall' on nang wang wong road are enjoyable places to go from time to time just to watch beautiful girls shopping and get treated like a human being by shop workers unlike surly lot in england....i'd rather have hemaroids than go to lakeside or the trafford centre etc (mekong, i still like england on the whole before you latch onto this for one of the reasons you left us 23 years ago :smirk: )
ChristianTroy
I agree with Mekong, i don't think it will be a success either. Pattaya is too small for 4 major malls between soi2 and Walking Street and after Major Compley there wasn't a need for a 3rd Cinema. However this one is bigger and better and probably is killing one of the other ones. I am happy it is there because I just rented a Condo literally next door and move in next week when I am back. Woot!
Mentors
just one question: Has this mall building a balcony?
Dexi
Maybe these malls dont need that many customers to survive, with high mark-ups and very low wages for the shop assistants....also,Pattaya seems to be growing at quite a rate so maybe the developers are looking to the future.... shygye
Maybe it is a way for Russian mobsters to launder money.
Hardy641
Timing of the opening is definitely bad/unlucky. Will it be a success? I also doubt as I donâ??t see the clientele for a Paragon like shopping mall. Bangkok shoppers wonâ??t be bothered to come down to Pattaya to shop as they got the original and bigger stores in town. Tourists on a beach holiday wonâ??t shop heavily either. After all they have to bring all the things back home sometimes. This leaves expats and locals I honestly doubt they are enough to make it profitable. As the original poster said only time will tell. However, one thing is for sure. Once again the Thais built a monstrous shopping complex without the proper infrastructure. The traffic on the already heavily congested 2nd and beach road we be badly affected and I would bet all I have that on weekends will to a total standstill especially during long weekends. robaus
I too think the timing is very poor. But they weren't to know that 2 years ago when they started the development. I know a large European Casino company bought land near this mall more than 10 years ago since it would make a superb site for a casino if Thailand ever legalizes them. Maybe they know something we don't know. In the meantime, I'll enjoy the air con.
samak
sure Taksin was on the way to legalize Casinos in Thailand; now it is probably from the table for years
Steve
Call me a sentimentalist but I long for the 'old' Pattaya. Smaller, quaint, a bit less urban and cold as it is today. You pretty much recoginized the same faces and people on each trip. Infrastructure-wise, how can Pattaya survive much more? In the west for the most part there are impact studies done on some major projects. Water, sewage, etc. There is always some locals that will fight it for any number of reasons. It may be annoying to some but it is a counter balance agaisnt unchecked sprawl that gobbles up local resources like police, fire, schools, etc. Maybe I'm stereotyping but I would imagine not much in the way of impact studies is done in Thailand and least of all Pattaya. When I go to Pattaya I'll visit it. Not because I am excited by it but first out of curiosity and second use it as a time killer when I'm bored.
