I'd imagine, knowing Thailand, that the reason he is in trouble is because he advertised this on the internet and charged money for the sessions. Plus, farangs were involved and farangs were making money off it. Pimping and procurring are 'Thai only' jobs you know. :) Pimping without a work permit? Although the Russians seem to get away with it in Pattaya.

I love the way they mention condoms and viagra in the report. Are condoms illegal? Is Viagra (with a script)? Why those nasty perverted farangs were actually protecting themselves with condoms!!!! :smirk:

Maybe they should have invited the cops to the parties and paid some tea money to be left alone?

SEX TOUR : King of the swingers arrested

Christian A. Richards, 54, has been [color:red]charged with procurement and commercial sex advertisements[/color]. The parties are advertised through www.Bangkok.CraigsList.co.th where Richards' wife goes by the name of Duang. They charge each participant Bt3,000.

The "swingers" caught in the raid were a mix of Americans, French, Indians and Chinese. Tourist Police arrived at the hotel suite to find the party just warming up and discovered condoms, 30 Viagra tablets and pornographic movies.

The police caught Richards in January at a party for about 50 people in a Huay Kwang hotel area, but he claimed it was a birthday party. Charges were pressed.

Tourist police commander Archayon Kraithong said that the investigation suggests such activities have been going on for three to four years, attracting 25 to 30 people from many countries to each party.

Police issued a warrant for Richards' arrest on February 1, 2009.

The foreign and Thai participants were released after paying fines, while Richards was still being questioned yesterday. If found guilty, he faces a jail sentence of up to 10 years or a fine of up to Bt20,000.

WTF? Why even have the porn there? You are in a room with 25 to 30 naked people all getting it on. You are basically IN your own porn movie!! If you need a porno movie on the fucking TV to get excited and get it up in that situation, well, might as well hang it up and become a monk. :)

I would think the porn charge the worst of it really. That and the advertising.

"10 years jail term or a fine of up to 20,000 baht"

I can never understand these penalties. There is a MASSIVE difference between a 20K fine and 10 years in jail.

You have to keep in mind that the penalties are written in the context of the income of the average citizen. While most of us could go pull 20K out of the bank on a moment's notice or at worse scrape it together in a few days, for the average Thai it would represent an actual hardship. That's the deterrent value of any fine; it's supposed to hurt. But no matter how high you set any fine there's always somebody who can just write a check and laugh it off.

The time or money choices are always out of scale in almost any jurisdiction. The system would rather get some money instead of undertaking the further costs of processing, housing, feeding and guarding inmates.

Is it a Social Justice issue wherein the rich can buy their way out of jail? It hardly rises to that level. It's simple macroeconomics really and if you brought the time and money closer to parity (fine equal to perhaps half the total costs of incarceration) you'd just have to put a lot more people in prison from inability to pay. Taxes would go up accordingly to cover the costs and that's always unpopular, especially when you'd just be incarcerating people for many non-violent and often victimless crimes. Any initiative like that would be a political non-starter.
