samak
most Thais purchase houses or condos with mortgages. in a normal mortgage contract, the bank insists on insurance or (what a lot of local banks do) organize insurance themselves. So in those cases, propertly will likely be insured. not though for many foreigners, who bring in cash from abroad
unit731
Whew! Best to get a solicitor/lawyer to READ the policy. What, exactly is covered? Just the bank getting paid their mortgage? Replacement cost or fair market value? Is your 'stuff' insured? What are the deductables? I don't know, but I think some are living in a delusional fantasy land. dean
The policy offered to me by Siam was for coverage up to 4 million baht and covered fire and water damage only. Since having your house broken into and robbed would be a greater risk, I want a policy that covers all three and which would include the contents of the house (which for me is around 1 million baht. I'll be looking next week while in Chiang Mai.

cavanami
Someone mentioned that they were quoted 28,000 bht or something like this...being too lazy to read back thru all the posts.. This is a USA price, so for me, completely unacceptable! Waaaaaay too much for Thailand.
