Flashermac
Last night a big storm was coming up. Just before it struck, the power went out. It stayed out all night. I've just booted up my PC for the first time since then, and it looks like there is a 3cm hole burnt into the bottom of the monitor screen. It looks like a oval shaped solar eclipse. I can't see any physical damage. It's an LG Flatron L1734s (17") and is only a couple of months old, so it is under warranty. I'll have to dig out the warranty and take it back to the shop. Still ... what happened???
The_Munchmaster
...., and it looks like there is a 3cm hole burnt into the bottom of the monitor screen....I can't see any physical damage. There's a 3cm hole in your screen but you can't see any physical damage?!
Flashermac
Sheesh ... it's a BLACK SPOT where the monitor doesn't not display anything. Looks to me like it is getting worse as I use it.
Khun_Kong
Try de-Gaussing? Maybe invest in the super cheap LCD monitor?
Flashermac
How do I de-Gauss? Off to ask Mr Google ... p.s. I paid about 3300 baht for it, so I thought it was a super cheap LCD monitor.
Flashermac
So this is what I find: << LCD and Plasma monitors never need to be degaussed, because they have no CRT in them. >>
cavanami
F. Some pixels or the pixel driver(s) are inoperative. Maybe can be repaired but for the money you paid for it, you might find it cheaper to scrap it and get another.
shygye
de-Guass is only for CRTs not LCDs. Try changing the resolution (lower res.) setting and see if the spot remains the same size. Just a check to see if the video card is the problem.
Flashermac
Changed the resolution. No difference. If I touch the screen with my finger at that spot, it sends out rainbow waves of colour. I do notice it is almost opposite the spot where the power cord goes into the rear of the monitor. I didn't notice any lightning beore the power went out.
The_Munchmaster
....it's a BLACK SPOT where the monitor doesn't not display anything.... That's a double negative Flash, which in Standard English is usually understood to resolve to a positive. So what you're really saying is that at the black spot the monitor does display something. So what's the problem?
