This article and especially the quote I have here just makes me believe even more that the last 7 years or so have been a waste of first of all and most importantly, soldier's lives. Secondly, and not so important, money that could have been well spent on domestic problems.

"The blasts in the capital followed a string of attacks in Iraq this month that have claimed hundreds of lives and raised concerns about the ability of Iraqi security forces to keep the lid on violence in advance of an American withdrawal."

Yea' date=' we should have left Saddam in power.....riiiight...[/quote']

In just what way was Sadam a threat to the United States?

:hmmm:

Don't ask him such a question. We have tried numerous times and all we get is crap answers such as he was involved with 9/11/01 terrorist attack and he also had a whole lot of weapons of mass destruction. He will mention the yellow cake uranium which is such a dangerous weapon that it was selling for about $5.00 a pound.

He will not admit Sadam was one time a USA friend.

If one had to choose the biggest threat between Iran and Saddam controlled Iraq, one would have to say Iran. State sponsored terrorism, fundamentalism, etc.

Iraq was actually one of our biggest checks against Iran. Having an enemy of Iran on its border was politically good for us. Had we committed the resources there to pacify Afghanistan, Iran would have been isolated to some extent on both sides.

That said, the blasts weren't unexpected. Despite the reduction in violence before the military left, there were always tensions bubbling behind the seemingly peaceful facade. Iraq as we know it may very well not be able to function as a state in its present form and may naturally progress to a 3 states. It may have a Yugslavia-esque future. States divided along ethnic/religious lines.

Irony was that Iraq under Sadam had a lot more freedoms for 50% of the population that the rest of the gulf states. Women Judges - No Burqa laws - even a person of Jewish religion in the early cabinet.

Mind you I know Iran Christians who continued and did "ok" under the "New" Iran.

Again - Iran is no\t as bad as the press makes you think

Saudi Arabia FAR worse!

OOOPS

Their "our" friends so can';t say "Boo"

Question: since Iraq has gotten their 'Freedom and Democracy', are they better off?

From what you said, the answer is no.
