Canadian loses 500,000 Baht’s worth of valuables following room theft.

Pattaya, October 1 [PATTAYA ONE NEWS] : Just after 8.30 on Wednesday Night, Police Lieutenant Colonel Reungwit from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Wanna Living Apartments in Soi Sukumvit 46/1 in South Pattaya. Police were contacted by Mr. David Popadeynetz aged 57 from Canada who had returned to his room to find it had been broken into and items had been stolen. He revealed that he had been away from the room since Midday and returned to find the room safe had disappeared. Luckily Security Cameras were able to record a possible suspect in the case and it is believed that a man of middle-eastern origin, who checked-in earlier in the day, is responsible for the theft. He is seen to enter Mr. Popadeynetz’s room and leave moments later with a large object in his bag which is thought to be the room safe. He did not give registration details at the time of check-in and gave the excuse that his friends had his papers and would arrive soon. Police believe the suspect is part of an organized and professional middle-eastern gang operating here in Pattaya and the search for him and others in the gang are ongoing at this time while Mr. Popadeynetz comes to terms with the loss of the safe which contained 6,000 Euro’s, 2 credit cards, 1 bank book, a flight ticket, passport, mobile phone, digital camera, some Thai currency and a laptop which was also stolen from the room.

on the contrary...anyone who leaves "6,000 Euro’s, 2 credit cards, 1 bank book, a flight ticket, passport, mobile phone, digital camera, some Thai currency and a laptop" in his room (in a 'roomsafe' or not) is an imbecile who doesn't deserve to own that much stuff in the first place.

Some cheap bast*rds replying to this thread. Really not that much the guy kept in his safe. Yet I'm wondering what kind of shitty hotel it was so he felt the need to hide his laptop in the safe. And someone could enter the room and take the safe away. Warning bells here, 500K is not much of belongings but perhaps the guy should upgrade his hotel stays. On a much more comforting note a couple of weeks ago in HK, jetlagged, I left the hotel room (suite) in the morning with the safe open and about that much cash inside + documents. Maid cleaned the room and didn't take a penny it seems. Stay in a decent place and that's usually the degree of mischief you will be facing while carrying enough cash to do some shopping.

Pattaya stinks, but how someone could consider 6000euros a lot of money to be travelling with smells dodgy as well.

that seems like way too much "valuables" to bring in a trip regardless of where you go.

Since when was cash, credit cards, flight ticket, passport, mobile phone and digital camera "way to much to bring on a trip"? Almost everyone would bring these items on any trip. Also many people take their laptop with them.

I do find it worrying that someone can enter a hotel room and "moments later" leave with the personal safe!

You might call it chicken fee but I doundt he is not too happy to lose this checken fee...

Dumb as hell to keep that much cash around. With technolgy called the ATM machine or good old traveller checks, he could have been much more secure in how to manage money not just cash.

If this was chicken fee, then those ATM charges for withdrawls wouldn't amount to mexican beans...
