My bf the sex tourist ep last night

Just saw the second episode of 'my boyfriend the sex tourist' on OZ tv last night. it's a damn good series. I've spent a lot of time in Thailand but I guess I've only spent about 4 days there in the last two years and they were all spent in my ex-gf's apartment except for a few hours in Soi Cowboy which actually made me feel that I was completely over the whole p4p bar scene.

So, this program actually gave me a bit of a jolt back to the 'scene' and gave me a bit of a different perspective as the doco was told from the girl's point of view.

For those of you who haven't seen it, the main part of the episode focuses on Lek who travels down from rural thailand (can't remember where) and she sits in a bar on soi 4 (I'm guessing from the images i saw) and she observes the girls in the bar to see if she would like to work there.

So this girl sits there and observes the girls and the mamasan in an all in brawl. One of the girls rings her bf from England who doesn't answer his phone for two days and it's all a bit much (understandably) for Lek who quietly leaves the bar deciding the bar life isn't for her.

Lek said she wanted to work in a bar to meet a foreign man. Perhaps many of these girls are as naieve as Lek when they first work in the bars and then quickly become jaded and hardened by the environment they work in. It actually made me feel quite sorry for these girls which is hard for me to say because I've seen the other side of it where girls with multiple sponsors are screwing guys for as much as they can.

Take Alis from 'secrets' bar who had a sponsor fighting in Iraq and was sending her 30,000 baht a month only to break it off from him just as he was about to visit her...(did I mention she has a Thai bf?)

I think the girls want to meet a foreign man for the money, thats pretty superficial. But they start work in a bar and then either get snapped up early or they turn into girls like Alis etc who are the kind of girl you want to avoid....

just my two cents...

Just watched it again on you tube as i missed the first part. It really makes me realise for all the time spent in Bkk and interactions with the girls I see that farangs don't really have an understanding of what the thais in the industry are thinking and going thru and I can also see how thais turn their noses up at us and the lower class thais....

Doris, did it really take a doco to make you 'see' those things ? If the roles were reversed and you saw a steady stream of young tarts wandering around your town with old Thai men, would you respect either the punters or the girls ? It is what it is - I just try to keep a low profile and not antagonise anyone.

The scenes where the girls were back in village giving tips on how to land a Farang were interesting, but overall I didnt find the doco told me anything new.

I posted a while ago that the full length mirrors near the lift in the Nana lobby don't help when you stagger in with a couple of young girls at 2am looking every inch the middle-aged sex tourist, but it wouldn't even rate a second glance with most Thais who work there : parade them up and down Emporium and it will probably evoke a different reaction.

If punters want to do the hand-holding, I'm-a-schoolboy-in-love thing, thats their choice, but I really think its rubbing it in the locals faces and holding us up to ridicule. One of the reasons I have hung in there with Ms CP is that she is completely natural in public - she doesnt fawn on me or fake affection, and I wouldnt have it any other way.

I watched it a few weeks ago. I liked it, it seemed to be more realistic then some of the sensational TV things they usually produce. It really brought home the message that a large part of motivation to go and work in the sex industry is not just earning cash, but the wish for a foreign 'saviour'. Most women can learn to play the GFE game, and for some it is a valid trade off against security. Many are sincere in their wish to care for someone who takes financial care of them, even if the "love" they profess may not really be the same as what the man is looking for.

Having seen some of the places they came from, I cannot blame them.

I think this doco is more value to newbies then reading Private dancer.

I can only speak for myself, but nothing beats firsthand experience. I had read so many of the warnings before I want anywhere near Thailand. The rules go out the window when you arrive in Disneyland and someone puts a beer in your hand. If I owned a Casino, its exactly the sort of response I would want from punters.

The toughest realisation for me was that a 'good' Thai girl could spend more time and effort trying to land her golden goose than many of the bad girls. God bless the latter.

wouldnt say it took a doco for me to see that...i used to live in bkk..but i haven't had any involvement in the scene for probably 2 years and to actually see this girl from the country sit there and contemplate having a job as a bargirl and then see the thais around her act like that and to actually hear her thoughts in thai and the words of the thais (i only speak a little thai) was a bit of an eye opener. if you don't speak thai then i believe everyone would get this type of feeling if suddenly they actually understood what was being said in these bars rather then just sitting there and not seeing 'the whole picture'
