Julian2
It appears Thai Immigration will allow overstays between 15/04/10 and 30/04/10 genuinely caused by the current world air traffic situation. I was just informed by my neighbour who knows I'm booked to fly out Thursday and my visa crashes Saturday. A quick check on ThaiVisa.com confirmed this. Mekong
I saw the article on TV stating the requirments as * flight details shown they are due to fly on flights which are disrupted by the airspace closure (Volcano Ash) * visa stamp in passport expired on and after 15 April 2010 * As of now, the waive will apply till 30 April 2010 But as of yet nothing on Immigration Bureau website to confirm this. Julian2
I have to go to MaeSai Wednesday to pick some gemstone carvings up anyway so it would be a simple matter to cross the border for a 15 day top up. Still nice to avoid another 4 passport stamps.
Bangkoktraveler
In Arizona, USA the governemnt just passed a law that if a person is caught by the local police for being illegal, and overstaying is illegal, it will be a felony in Arizona! 1 year in jail! Julian2
That's a state law? Sounds like the sort of zero tolerance law that directs all the crime into your neighbours backyard.

Over staying is not illegal up to a certain point, esp if you had a valid ticket to return home and can show you intend to, like a reissued ticket, with in the next few days. Ooops. They are in the process of passing the law. If passed, it will be the toughtest law on illegal immigration. It appears citizens will have to prove they are citizens or they might get arrested and have their vehicle seized.
