They represent their state or district but their primary allegience should be to the U.S. We have a right to freedom of speech so the candidates can advertise on tv, etc. I do like our checks and balances and would work better IF the candidates were beholden to the people and not the special intersts which funds their elections. This has muddied everything. They are not fighting for their constituencies any longer. In fact, they oftentimes work against their constituencies better interest because they are beholden to big money interests. Its unconstitutional but America needs a 'Cincinnatus' in order to save itself and the very constitution it doesn't live up to any longer. Britain may need one as well.
