Intelligence reports reveal that red-shirts in many parts of the country are forming an underground movement, Special Branch chief Pol Lt-Gen Treethos Ronnaritwichai said on Thursday.

He said the reports had been gathered since since the operation to break up the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship protest at Ratchaprasong on May 19. He refused to disclose any details

He had set up a task force of special branch police to follow the underground movement's activities throughout the country.

p.s. One of the Thai language papers has a photo on the front page of men in military uniforms overlooking the entrance to the temple. Presumably, they are ones who fired into the temple. Two have pink patches on the back of their helmets, one does not. The paper is asking what unit was wearing pink patches.

Well, if they are being watched I guess they ain't underground deep enough. Stupid gov officials saying this shit publicly don't you think? Shaddup and watch, and arrest quickly if they are doing something illegal like setting up an armed underground resistance group. Might be time the reds grab their AKs and m79s, and a bag of rice, and head into the jungle. We'll see how determined they are if they disappear and really go 'underground'. Much like the commies did in the 70s in Thailand. I just do not see that happening. Urban guerilla warfare seems most likely. Hit and run sabatoge. Much like what is happening in the south. The gov will be hard pressed to fight this in both the south and the north/northeast. Hard times ahead if these fuckers are serious enough to do that.

Not the photo I meant, but similar ...

1) << Skytrain snipers and the temple

[The latest controversy is the existence of a BTS sniper team stationed above Pathumwanaram Temple.]

Above: From Khaosod, May 26, 2010

The caption reads: Picture reveals - The picture shows 2 soldiers stationed at the BTS station and pointing guns at Pathumwanaram Temple which is designated as a safe zone. The picture was taken on he evening of May 19. Deputy PM Suthep dismisses the claim that the CRES dispatched soldiers to stay at the BTS Station [According to CRES, no soldiers were dispatched to the Siam BTS station or were involved in the shooting at the Pathumwanaram Temple.] >>

2) << The caption reads: Stationed until morning - The picture taken at around 8 am on May 20 which shows that the soldiers stay on the BTS rail route in front of the Pathumwanaram Temple. Meanwhile the team of police, interior officials and Public Health ministry inspected the dead bodies of 6 people. Witnesses insisted that the bullets came from the direction of the rails. >>

The problem with all this "conspiracy" is the inconsistency. If the government wanted dead reds, then there would be dead reds lying everywhere. Why on Earth would they pussyfoot around everywhere else, yet have snipers shooting into a posted (by them) sanctuary, a wat no less, with mostly women & children.

It just doesn't pass a smell test.

Are you stalking me?

It seems that the "division" of the army was myth. Lots of reporters, yet no reports of anyone not doing their jobs...

Lots of reports of police doing nothing.

Pretty much the usual breakdown, nothing really "watermelon-y."

Don't get paranoid. It's just my posting style developed over many years.

Depends what you mean by 'division'. I was just suggesting there may be schools of thought within the Thai military establishment about hunting down Reds. As Cent points out....it could get nasty. The police will let the army do the rough stuff.

Well, the government still denies the assassination! That doesn't pass the smell test. :hmmm:
