TheCorinthian
Advice is welcomed! What I am looking for right now would be a small place but larger than a studio on Suk or just off it. Near 33 or one stop either way would be ideal. Would like to keep it cheap for the time being as I will actually not be there very much at first. Thanks! LizardKing
Talk to the proprietor of the NNB and get the name/number of his agent friend. She was very good.
simie
Corinthian, I lived in River Court a short way down Suk soi 41 for a while a number of years ago. Nothing fancy but I liked it there. Decent sized studios or 1 bed apartments. Theres a similar block, River Place next door. Swimming pool, Japanese restaurant and laundry on the ground floor. The soi was quiet in those days, hopefully still so now? and a handy little Tops supermarket where the soi joins Suk. Short walk to Emporium and the sky train and an easy walk to Villa market and soi 33. Simie.
Pom Michael
Here is how I did it (years ago): a. Got a 3 month service apartment - I hear Rompo Mansion can be had for 18K per month - a good deal. b. Use the time to scope out where your going spend your time, and then concentrate your housing on that location. Worked for me!
Flashermac
Talk around, ask around. Do not go through an agent, or you will pay through the nose. Unfortunately, Thais usually do not advertise. You are supposed to know they have a place for rent by divine guidance or something.
LizardKing
Actually, I have used an agent the past two condos and find from talking to other tenants that I'm paying below most of them. I guess it depends upon the agent, and maybe because of condo vs apartment.
Dexi
Maybe ask at some of the local shops in the area or even a motorcycle taxi guy could take you around a few places....
Flashermac
Walking around, you may see small handmade signs advertising a vacancy. Most Thais don't seem to believe in spending on advertising. When I was an editor, I remember the sales people for my magazine bitching about even fancy restaurants. The owners would say, "Business is down, so we can't afford to advertise. When we get more customers, we'll start advertising again." Huh?
cavanami
Soi 41 was excellent value for the location. Also the apartments at Thong Lo and Suk, good value, 8500 Baht for a studio. have to go farther out for bigger/cheaper, good value places...Bang Na, On Nut,etc.
TroyinEwa/Perv
Last place I lived was On Nut soi 30. A small soi off that. 2 levels, 2 bedrooms upstairs, 1 huge bath down, huge living room, big kitchen, carport, nice area in front to sit and have a beer or 10........7k not including utilities.
