radioman
Yah, okay so I know they're old but this is my second/standby/backup machine. It was an Athlon XP1800 but that died recently and rather than junk the whole thing I picked up a P4 motherboard and 2 processors for 1000 baht. Thing is I'm not sure which is the better processor. Maybe one of you computer gurus can advise. The motherboard is an Asus P4P800 and will handle either processor: 1. P4 2.4GHz 533FSB 1Mb L2 cache 2. P4 2.8GHz 800FSB 512kb L2 cache So the 2.8 has a smaller cache but faster core and FSB. Is it the better of the 2 or would the 1Mb cache be a better bet? shygye
Go with the faster P4. The larger cache only gives a few % performance improvement. The faster P4 with faster bus will have higher performance for most workloads.
carlton68
radioman, as the motherboard supports FSB 800 Mhz I recommend you take the P4 2.8 Ghz.
radioman
Thanks guys, couldn't believe the cache size would be a great benefit over the other factors. So far it seems good, overclocked to 3.36GHz and stable (for now).
