robaus
The use of domestic solar panels feeding electricity back to the grid in Western Australia has been too successful.. it's overloading the system! West Australian Why not Death Valley and the Sahara too? Sell oil short!

Specialist
Why not Death Valley and the Sahara too? Hmm, maybe because there isn't a power grid in Death Valley and the Sahara? It doesn't do you any good to install a solar array to generate juice, unless you can connect it to something that needs juice. That's what power grids are for, to get the juice from where it is made to where it is used.

Produce power in the Sahara and to transport it to Germany..... BB

Well, take the money we spend on war and reassign it to build the grid to feed the major cities nearby Death Valley? Anything to get us off the need for foreign oil and become self sufficient in producing power and being more 'green' in the production of it. Solar power production = 'good' energy strategy. Foreign oil power production = 'bad' energy strategy. Imagine the construction jobs and the affiliated other jobs this would create back home in the states. The quicker the US can get off foreign oil the better for the nation as a whole. JMHO
Bangkoktraveler
Southern Arizona may be the first State in the Union to feel the backlash from the solar energy. The way I look at it, everybody in southern Arizona should be getting free solar hot water.

robaus
It may also be a way for sunny Spain, Portugal and Greece to pay off their debt to the EU. Whereas all the rain soaked Emerald Isle can do is produce more black gold.... no not oil... Guinness! ...well, I’m doing my bit to help out the Celtic tiger.
