Flashermac Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 POM YAHK HAI KHUN PBEN FAEN POM DTALAWT CHEE-WIT. MUA-RAI JA DTAEN-AN GARN? That should do it.
Flashermac Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Southern dialect? A delicious problem? Ah! 1500 baht.
Central Scrutinizer Posted July 10, 2011 Report Posted July 10, 2011 Just take 20,000 baht out of your wallet and wave it in front of her face. That'll get the point across very well with no having to learn Thai.
MooNoi Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Southern dialect? A delicious problem? Ah! 1500 baht. Made my day, that post Frash! Reminded me of when I first moved to Thailand (speaking VERY nid noi Thai!) and lived in Krabi for 4 months then moved to BKK.... everyone asked me why I spoke so fast and spoke "Phassaa Tai" (Southern Thai). Didn't realise I did and had to learn everything over again!
Flashermac Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 I had a student years ago whose Southern Thai carried over to English. She spoke everything rapid fire and ended every sentence with a falling tone. When I first moved to Bangkok, people asked why I spoke Thai with a Northern accent. I didn't know I did, but I'd spent my first 5 years in country there. Even more confusing, people in Laos complimented my on how good my Lao ... when in fact I was speaking Thai.
