A Salina girl, abducted by her father in 2007, has returned home after being found safe in Thailand, according to Onondaga County sheriff's deputies.

Deonna Shipman, now 8, was found in Bangkok last month with her father, Jeffery Shipman, 51, who did not have custody of the girl, said Sgt. John D'Eredita.

Jeffery Shipman was found Feb. 24 and arrested on an FBI warrant on international parental kidnapping charges, D'Eredita said. He was arraigned in Los Angeles. Shipman had been on the FBI's Most Wanted List.

This is a growth industry in Oz - one parent has dual citizenship and goes back to the 'mother country' with the kids. Japan is especially notorious for ignoring requests from Oz parents for any form of legal recourse. Given some of the dropkicks that make our news services for their parenting efforts, I'm not entirely sure there isnt some method in their madness. Whaling, abduction and schoolgirl porn stars - a very complex country.

I've seen a number of guys who look like that. Not a very distictive looking face.

I've heard of instances where American men working here in the GI days simply grabbed their kids and ran. A friend who tries to reunite families told me of one instance where the now grown children somehow found out that their mother was still alive. For the past 25 years, daddy dearest had told them she was dead! The friend located the wife and had a Thai employee call. A woman answered and turned out to be the grannie. When she was asked if she would like to meet her grandchildren, the poor old lady fainted away dead.

Another man was conscience striken and tried to located the wife he had abandoned. The mother was found, but the guy got cold feet, He said not to contact her and continues to let her children think she is dead.

Thee are a lot of scumbags out there.

a tough time for the kid returning to her mother, who she will probably not recognize again (as she was just 3 when she was kidnapped); probably she want to go back to daddy...

The Russian Mother who went back to Russia just after the kidnapping.

More to this story than meets the eye.

The Russian bit puzzled me. A mail order bride who wanted to go back home with their kid, and daddy disagreed?

A couple of the posts on the link Mr C posted seem plausible i.e she never wanted the child in the first place and was prepared to put her up for adoption.

There are always two sides to every story and without knowing all the facts I am not going to pass judgement. As soon as THAILAND is mentioned in any Western media people tend to go into hyperbole.
