JaiRai
Of those that did survive, some became fucked in the head, and eventually homeless, suicidal. I remember when living in San Fran (late 90s) there was a study revealing that a significant portion of the homeless in the city were VNM vets who simply could no longer function in 'normal' society (still not sure what normal is). Flash isn't one of those, btw. Was happy to see your post, don't underestimate what those guys went through. In contrast know several vets coming from the European theater who only became more secular, and cynical about US politics. To some extent it was a good influence. 25 years in LoS can be good or bad, my own assessment of expats (and tourists) here would be 70% avoid, 30% maybe OK. cavanami
Germany was not all that boring in the 60 ~ 70's. All the bases were still open. Prices were cheap. The Px was cheap. Life was good!
baa99
The Red Army and PLO kept Germany hopping. German beer, broads, and driving the autobahns are enough to entertain GIs.
