baa99
(Reuters) - North Korea has detained an 85-year-old Korean War veteran from California visiting the country as a tourist, pulling him off a plane as he was about to leave the reclusive nation last month, his son said. Merrill Newman, a retiree from Palo Alto, California, was taken away a day after he and his tour guide spoke with North Korean authorities at a meeting in which his military service in Korea was discussed, his son, Jeff Newman, said in a CNN interview on Wednesday. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/21/us-korea-north-detention-idUSBRE9AK00P20131121 Yet another stupid American traveling to North Korea. khunsanuk
Hi, "Yet another stupid American traveling to North Korea." Perhaps, but is there really a need to detain an 85-year-old guy? Sanuk!
Flashermac
My Masonic Lodge in the States had two East Prussian WWII veterans as members, one of them who had won an Iron Cross. Maybe we should have arrested them 50 years after the war.

waerth
Why is the American stupid? If someone wants to travel somewhere, gets a legit visa issued and then does nothing wrong. Why should he expect to be arrested?

Why should he expect to be arrested? Because it is North Korea that has a history of holding Americans for political gain.
