limbo
The real problem is that a lot of very high ups, including Prayuth are sticking to their guns of 'good police work' and officers involved have already been promoted or are about to be. The loss of face would be unthinkable if they now have to turn around and say that it was indeed botched and torture was used etc. It's very interesting to see how this will unravel.
YimSiam
Just when you thought the Thais would be forced to understand how f*cked they have made things in Koh Tao, you get a brilliant (cough, cough) idea like this: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/Tourists-may-be-required-to-pay-entrance-fee-for-v-30244592.html A meeting of tourism operators and local residents of Koh Tao in Surat Thani resolved during a meeting Thursday to collect an entrance fee from visiting tourists. They plan to use the fee for setting up a fund to boost security for tourists on the island. The meeting resolved to have the Koh Tao Municipality hold a public hearing on the fee rate. Maybe those two guys are better off in prison than on Koh Tao -- at least in prison, anal rape is free, whereas on Koh Tao it seems you'll have to pay for it from now on... Dexi
Maybe they could designate the island as a national park.....with the usual dual pricing of course

They'll be lucky if they have a tourism industry after this. The (all that follows is assumed) 'Powerful' interests that are being protected will not have any profitable interests left to enrich themselves from, following the phenomenally massive negative publicity that this island is receiving courtesy of the corrupt and Keystone Cops like cadre of people who style themselves as police. So rather than efficiently disposing of the publicity problem by conducting a transparent and believable investigation that bolsters international confidence and thereto tourism confidence, they obviously prefer to kill their goose that lays the golden eggs.
cavanami
What do you expect? a banana republic, with decades of corruption Thailand is great, until it is not, as those that have had problems (or been killed) have found out...
