An incident involving around 100 Chinese tourists at Hokkaido’s New Chitose Airport has triggered a fierce backlash after footage of the scuffles was aired on Japanese news programmes.

Fighting broke out at the airport on Friday evening after around 280 flights had been cancelled due to the heaviest snow in more than 50 years blanketing the region.

Videos of the melee between Chinese tourists and airport staff and police officers were broadcast on the TBS News channel, while clips of the brawl have been shared widely on social media.

“This is the usual Chinese tourist,†a poster named Kato wrote beneath a YouTube clip of the incident. “Chinese tourists immediately rampage and repeat criminal acts. They are very, very savage.â€

Another commented “Chinese ... no manners, no discipline,†while Yukiko Namie added, “Really disgusting ... never visit and trouble my country again.â€

A number of anonymous posters on the 2Channel web site – which has a reputation for inflammatory comments – blamed the government for relaxing visa regulations for Chinese tourists or “promoting immigrationâ€.

Several posters asked what the rioters thought they were going to achieve as there was nothing the airlines or airport operator could do if a blizzard had grounded the aircraft. Others asked whether those involved had been arrested.

According to police, there were no arrests, although two people were sent to a nearby hospital after getting caught up in the melee.

A commentator on the dng65.com web site reported a claim that the scuffles began because only Chinese flights had been grounded due to the weather and that the tourists were accusing the Japanese authorities of discriminating against Chinese.

Other messages described the perpetrators as “livestock†who lack common sense and should go elsewhere for their holidays if they are going to act like “barbariansâ€.

Would love to see how the Israelis deal with poorly behaved Chinese tourists 😊
actually there is a huge amount of Chinese, Korean and Japanese tourists in Israel, mostly on tours "in the footsteps of Jesus" and all very well behaving as I could for myself this summer.

Then again, Israeli tourists abroad are not much better 55555555

Aren't the Israelis the ones with no guns in the airports?

correct.

there are NO guns at Ben-Gourion, not one in sight, no police no military inside the airport building.

but in a large perimeter, yes.

and lots of profiling before you enter the airport.

after the terrorist attack at Brussels airport in march, Belgian police have been training for 6 months in Israel, as well as many other countries.

it works.....

But those nasty Israeli security guards use PROFILING! That's discriminatory and shouldn't be permitted. Just because someone looks shifty and acts shifty doesn't actually mean that they really are shifty. :)

p.s. Actually, about the only complaint I've heard about Israeli tourists is that they tend to be cheapskates. (Usually, because they've just finished their military service and haven't got much money.)

The Israeli Tourists we get here, by and large, are students on fruit picking working holiday visas.

But they don't look like your average foreign student, you know, all into the latest "house" music or what's called these days, sniffing a lot, comatose in the mornings and rough looking the rest of the time, no, the Israelis are all very clean cut, sober and have a certain military bearing...

I think they're still enrolled at Uni, doing undercover 101...
