My Cow Jai
Bembaman, "# 1. sexual practices-dry sex, little foreplay etc which MASSIVELY affect the risks" Interesting point. I certainly concur with point #2. It is quite extraordinary how widespread the belief in 'muti' still is in all social classes of modern Africa. Also, sadly some 'cures' directly cause the infection of others - the rape of young girls has risen stratosperically due to a pervasive and tragic belief that sex with a virgin cures HIV. "# 3. Different strains of the virus." Does anyone know the contagious rate differences between the Asian and African strains?
thai3
I thought the main strain in LOS was sub type E which is thought to be more infectious? Have not seen anything about it recently though, maybe a question for the Doc on the John Hopkins site-peter
My Cow Jai
I've been told by others that Asian strains are more contagious too. While I don't dispute this, it is kind of curious given the overall comparative Afro-Asian infection rates.
thai3
The strain might be more contagious than the African, but as mentioned some African sex practice tends to make up for this. If you believe what's on the news the new explosions in HIV rates are happening in India and China-peter
Guest
for my workpermit the required certificate included an HIV test (which took only two minutes alltogether...)
didierhardy
Can you tell me when you get your work permit? How many diseases are stated on your medical certificate? For another falang in our company the medical certificate without HIV test was ok when he applied 2 months ago for his work permit. Didier
Guest
about two and a half years ago. i don't remember which deseases were stated on the certificate itself, i did not even look at it that much, just went o the neighborhood clinic and picked it up. i remember very clearly though that on the requirements given to me by the relevant office an AIDS test was clearly stated. didierhardy
About 3 months ago our falang could get his work permit with the following Medical Certificate. I have the copy on my desk right now: (Phraram 9 Hospital) 1. Leprosy 2. Tuberculosis 3. Drug Addiction 4. Alcoholism 5. Elephantiasis That's it. No HIV test. Never mind. Let's close the discussion. Fidel
I've applied for my work permit and I needed a medical certificate. I just paid the doctor 50 baht and he gave me a medical certificate in Thai. I dunno what it said but I wasn't tested or examined in any way. My Cow Jai
Whenever I've had a medical for the work permit it goes like this: Weigh me, take my blood pressure, ask "Are you healthy sir?", "errr...yes", pay 60 Baht, collect document, leave.
