spudsmck
All of them have been scary, but the most was last June from Pattaya to BKK airport. 200 KM per hour (130mph) on the skyway and then when we hit traffic he was doing hole-shots thru traffic at 130KM. I was late and trying to catch my flight so I didn't say anything on the skyway but I had to finally tell the dude to slow down when we hit traffic. The dude told me don't worry I was #1 police driver until they retired me for drinking too much whiskey

Guest
It was a journey in an open back pickup from Bkk to Ankghor Wat ! The ride from Bkk to the Thai Cambodia border was smoothe and only took a few hours but they didn't prepare us for the scariest , wackiest most death defying roller coaster ride the rest of the way ! This part of the journey should have only taken a dew hours as well but it lasted a hair raising 12 long hours ! We were air born flying over short bridges that were missing rails for the tires to ride upon . This is why they would take a run at them in hopes of actually flying over the missing rails ! When we were approaching our third or fourth bridge it was so dangerous of an approach tht I had to close my eyes thinking we weren't going to make it over this one and I was really going to die ! I had this incredible feeling of certain death at least 3 times during the 12 hours ! But when we finally arrived safe and mostly unharmed in Angkor I actually smiled and thought ; "WOW" was that ever exciting ! But I'm nt sure if I would ever do it again ? UAL875
Sometimes scary does not involve speed. Last year upon arrival at Don Muang, I was in a taxi heading to my hotel. It was fairly late and the toll way was empty. The cars on the road were all going fast. My driver was a woman (by coincidence I always get lady taxi drivers from the airport). Anyway she was driving at the blazing speed of 40-50km per hour. Often she would turn off the headlights and twice she crossed over from lane #1 to lane #3 without looking, for no reason. At one point she brings the taxi to a crawl as cars whiz by honking. I thought the taxi was having mechanical troubles but no ÂEthis was the way she chose to operate. It was like driving with someone having a seizure or someone who wanted to get rear-ended. No rhyme or reason to any of these maneuvers. Not that there ever is ÂEbut at least with the speed kings you hope that the reason they try what they do is to get to the destination quickly. I was watching my life potentially ending in slow motion. We made it to the hotel but this was one tortuous ride. I hope she was just sleepy because this woman was an accident in the making. Way scarier than any BKK motorcycle ride or bus/pickup truck journey I have taken in the countryside or Lao (although, as stated in some other posts, those rides are harrowing in their own respects). Anyone else ever experience this form of "slow death"?
pattaya127
I've been lucky so far. no real scare. Except on a bus trip from Sukhotai to Chiang Mai. We were just talking, my friend and I, and he started telling me the driver was driving pretty fast for the winding downhill rd. I did not notice really, but he woke me up to it. Brink15
UAL875 "Anyway she was driving at the blazing speed of 40-50km per hour." She drive you long time. Women drivers, the same world wide. Now wait for the responses.
Brink15
Lik, When was this? Sounds like a ride from hell. At least you didn't get stopped by former KR troops at a "Toll" station.
Brink15
My wife has probably had the scariest ride ever. When she was about 16 she was riding in a pick up truck on the road from Tapraya to Aranyaprathet. She was seated between two friends. At some point they drove right into a Khmer rouge ambush. The truck was sprayed with fire from multiple AK-47s. Both of my wife's friends were slaughtered. The only reason she survived is that she was covered in their blood and the trauma caused her to pass out. She was catatonic for about a week until they took her to the Wat in Tapraya where her uncle was the abbot. He chanted over her unconscious body until she slowly came around. Needless to say she doesn't talk about it too much today.

chilli13
this one is easy for me as the only scary ride which resulted in an accident & injury to me happened on a motorbike taxi ride in bkk! started of from my friends place around sukumvit soi30 & wanted to go to the dusit zoo in a hurry(afternoon rushhour) so only choice was the M-taxi! I guess it was partly my own fault as I think I told him 'leo leo!' & was riding in shorts'n'sandals & no helmet I think? well he started of nicely by using severel small soi's/paths to navigate north & was doing the usual zig zag'ing in the multilane rd's. then very near to the zoo some pickup(lady driver!) cut into the lane where we were & hit us which caused the bike to sort of fall over & a major cut in my foot! luckily the dense traffic & hence low speed traffic meant we avoided to be hit further from behind traffic & the unfortunate lady was kind enough to escort me to the hospital & even insisted to drive me home afterwards & next day she came with a large fruit basket as to apology ;-) would only happen to a farang me thinks? anyways I'm still using the m-taxis occasionally, but never on crosstown rides anymore... take care
