Says AskMe:

To get things started we are working on an Expat Auto service

A friend of mine works at Volvo- one of the things he told me is a good revenue generator for them is their international expat car program. They will strike deals with multinationals (whom often give their expat company cars) to sell them cars at a good price with all details preworked so that when the expat arrives all he has to do is to pick up his keys. They move a lot of units through that program.

Also a good idea would be a one-stop-shop for financing, insurance, registration, instruction re obtaining a license, tax, etc. so that all details are worked out. I owned a car for the past year and doing all of these things was a real pain in the ass- would have been impossible without the help of my Thai friends.

Cheers!

AskMe,

Why not just turn it around ?

Try to find Thai specialities that could be exported to Farangland......

We, on this board, must surely represent most of civilised countries here.........

I for one would be interested to check my markets for specialised thai products, certainly if packaged offered to me. ( I mean that I will not have to look after them ).

Cheers !

The biggest problem anyone has with this sort of thing is finding a starting point. What we are hoping is that we will get enough people together with the right mix of skills to get a couple of simple projects off the ground and working. If we are successful these should in turn lead us onto bigger and better things.

We are holding another meeting upstairs at the Old Dutch on Soi Cowboy on either the 6th or 7th and if you are interested you are welcome to come along. The guy to get hold of to confirm times is kfarang@ethailand.com

I would also like to see an online discussion developing so that we can involve as many different people as possible. We have made a start with Auto sales and it would be great to be able to offer a variation on the one stop sort of service to people looking at the used car market as well. If anyone is interested in helping to grow this project we are looking for ideas.

We are also talking about widening the scope of the service and offering more general Expat Services which will cover anything and everything. There are already a number of people doing this sort of thing but I am certain that its possible to add value to any business if one looks for ways to work smarter. This is what we want to try and achieve by getting as many different service providers to start networking each with the other.

I registered a domain www.medicalsafari.com and this along with www.expatauto.com is one of the projects we are going to start working on. Firstly we are going to have to research who is already doing what and to start promoting the web site as an industry gateway.

Then once we have got some idea of the feasibility of the project we will decide whether its worth going ahead or not. Why do you think it will require capital to start it up? The way I see it we would merely be promoting services already being offered by both the medical profession and the hospitality industry and we will merely act as a go between.

Anyone interested?

Stuck in traffic yesterday, and having already used personal car, taxi, sky train and walking to get home (I missed out on the water taxi) I decided someone needs to open a helicopter bus service. ::

Buy a couple of landing pads and run routes just like the water taxi's and buses. Sure it will be expensive and no one will use it (see Tollways), but a marvelous dream it is.

You or your company would have WAY too much money for your slef importance :: :: ::

CEOs of real Thai companies don't even have this luxury. (Now Mini-Vans) with A/C, Comutpers /"Secretaries"/Executive Assistants are another story.

Walking to home ????? Not anyone exec as a Thai. Wasn't the car/driver waiting????

No flame, just don't accept/understand.

PS.....Helicopter/Bus? service has been here for many years.

This discussion is about being bored silly in LOS and some of us would like to try and find something constructive to do with our time. There are plenty of other threads on the board where you can dazzle all with your wit and ability to entertain and unless you have a contribution to make it would be appreciated if you trotted off to play in the traffic.

The medical idea sounds promising. I know some British people go to Eastern European countries for cheap cosmetic surgery so you may have some competition there.

Another idea you may entertain if you've few scruples is already being done by a guy some of you may have seen doing the rounds at Nana.. If I give you the name of his website you may be able to guess what his idea is... exploitedasia.com.
