Don't know if this is specifically a Thai thing or not,but recently a familly member has downloaded a music track to their phone and set it to repeat,for the whole day,just as one might listen to theradio.They don't seem to get bored with it even after 50+ times.Is it just me,or would this drive you nuts ?

Chiang Mai is packed with Chinese at the moment,there seem to be more of them than Thais in the tourist areas.Many seem to be young and female with ahabit of wearing short shorts displaying those chalk white legs.This evening at the Tapae market they were buying everything that wasnt nailed down.

lots of hotels now offer a pick-up service from the airport at low cost.I intend to use this whenever possible.Also there is the free bus from Swamy > DM.

Maybe it will be like the registration process in cheap hotels ,where they hand you the form and you fill in your own details,no checks required.

Depends how big it is - if its only the size of a golf ball then not too bad.

Maybe they realise large parts of the continent are a basket case and the effort and resources required are beyond even the capabilities of the US,and maybe not worth it.Maybe the Chinese could do more,but they are probably only interested in the natural resources.

I agree about the dangerous level of noise in some bars,it is intolerabe - don't know why the girls don't complain,it must be absolute hell working in a place like that.On a similar theme,I recently attended a wedding,a coach was hired to take the guests to the event and some low qualitu karaoke singers hired to 'entertain the passengers.They cranked up the volume to ear-splitting levels so I had to put my fingers in my ears.Did anyone complain ?No...
