It wouldn't bother me if Walmart or Cosco got into either the healthcare or hospital business (not just pharmacy business that they are in now). The more competition, the better. People should have choices in medical care and these choices should be transparent, up front. if Obama care is upheld, with the determination that everyone should have/pay for insurance, there should be no more padding of hospital bills to (supposedly) make up for the hospitals having to care for those without insurance.

You've reminded me of something that happened to my father near 20 years ago. He went to his optometrist for a new pair of eye glasses. When he saw the bill, he was shocked! It was 3 times what he usually paid. This time he was using Medicare, and the doc told him he still paid the same as usual. What he saw was the bill that would be submitted to Medicare. :p

Here's a question. Isn't social security something that the government forces us to buy into? And is the main difference is that its not forcing us to buy from a private company? Or can we opt out of SS? I've heard we can but don't really know but if we can't then its the same tihng in theory isn't it?

I saw a news show on Obamacare. I didn't really understand it before so couldn't say I was against it or for it without really knowing the nuts and bolts. The person who presented seemed to be impartial and overall it seemed like an improvement on what we have now. Perfect? No, but it seems an improvement. My personal opinion about the opposition by it by the masses of conservatives and republicans was based partialy on the powers that be demonizing national health care and successfully having most Americans think its communistic, socialistic and makes us closer to a socialist state and the second is that it was hated simply because it was proposed by Obama. Any Democrat would get the same reception. Although I have no proof I am williing to bet had a Republican proposed the same thing it would be heralded. From what I understand no one has a problem with a state doing it (like Romney did in Mass) but not on a federal level. What's the friggin' difference?

Maybe because it is easier to leave a state if you disagree than leaving the country? :dunno:

As far as I know, you cannot get out of paying Social Security. Something I've wondered about is that I have several friends here who paid into SS for some years, but not long enough to receive anything (less than 10 years). Is there anyway they can get back what they did pay in?

Here ya go:

<< At issue in the health care case is whether the Constitution’s grant to Congress of the power to regulate interstate commerce covers what Mr. Obama and his Democratic allies wrote in the Affordable Care Act.

The original language of the Constitution does not seem to grant Congress such an expansive power - a point raised by one of the appeals court judges, who, nevertheless, upheld the law, saying the Supreme Court itself had expanded the document’s purview that far. >>

I am right now pissed off with anything 'American'.

Yesterday I was on the sidewalk walking pass McDonalds. A truck speed out of the McDonald's

parking lot. I turn to see the truck just as it hit me head on.

The dumb fuck got out and started babbling "I didn't yield for his truck".

Sure the cops came.

I was hurt.

The dumb shit didn't get a ticket. He was so happy he offered to

buy me a soda for the one that got destroyed when he hit me.

.

I went to the hospital. After 2 hours in the emergency room

I asked how much longer it would be considering others that came in after me

had already been seen. They had misplaced my paper work. They told me

I would have start at 'the end of the line'. I went home and had a beer.

Work for a railroad and you pay no SS.

Work for the city (Chicago), pay no SS.

Politicians pay SS? not sure but I would expect not :dunno:

Former NAACP leader accuses Sharpton and Jackson of ‘exploiting’ Trayvon Martin

Former NAACP leader C.L. Bryant is accusing Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton of “exploiting†the Trayvon Martin tragedy to “racially divide this country.â€

“His family should be outraged at the fact that they’re using this child as the bait to inflame racial passions,†Rev. C.L. Bryant said in a Monday interview with The Daily Caller.

The conservative black pastor who was once the chapter president of the Garland, Texas NAACP called Jackson and Sharpton “race hustlers†and said they are “acting as though they are buzzards circling the carcass of this young boy.â€

Jackson, for example, recently said Martin’s death shows how “blacks are under attack†and “targeting, arresting, convicting blacks and ultimately killing us is big business.â€

George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain, killed Martin, a 17-year-old black man who was unarmed at the time of his death, last month. Zimmerman has claimed to have shot Martin in self-defense and has not been charged with a crime.

But Bryant, who explores the topic of black-on-black crime in his new film “Runaway Slave,†said people like Jackson and Sharpton are being misleading to suggest there is an epidemic of “white men killing black young men.â€

“The epidemic is truly black on black crime,†Bryant said. “The greatest danger to the lives of young black men are young black men.â€

Bryant said he wishes civil rights leaders were protesting those problems.

“Why not be angry about the wholesale murder that goes on in the streets of Newark and Chicago?†he asked. “Why isn’t somebody angry about that six-year-old girl who was killed on her steps last weekend in a cross fire when two gang members in Chicago start shooting at each other? Why is there no outrage about that?â€

Bryant said he worries that “people like Sharpton and those on the left†will make Martin’s death a campaign issue in the presidential race.

He speculated that they will “turn this evolving tragedy of this young man into fodder to say… if you don’t re-elect Obama then you will have unbridled events or circumstances like this happening in the streets to young men wearing hoodies.â€

He also criticized President Obama for his “nebulous statement†responding to Martin’s death that “if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.â€

“What does that mean?†Bryant asked. “What was the purpose in that?â€

...

On Feb. 26, when Zimmerman first spotted Trayvon, he called police and reported a suspicious person, describing Trayvon as black, acting strangely and perhaps on drugs.

...

Zimmerman told them he lost sight of Trayvon and was walking back to his SUV when Trayvon approached him from the left rear, and they exchanged words.

Trayvon asked Zimmerman if he had a problem. Zimmerman said no and reached for his cell phone, he told police. Trayvon then said, "Well, you do now" or something similar and punched Zimmerman in the nose, according to the account he gave police.

Zimmerman fell to the ground and Trayvon got on top of him and began slamming his head into the sidewalk, he told police.

Zimmerman began yelling for help.

...

One witness, who has since talked to local television news reporters, told police he saw Zimmerman on the ground with Trayvon on top, pounding him — and was unequivocal that it was Zimmerman who was crying for help.

Zimmerman then shot Trayvon once in the chest at very close range, according to authorities.

When police arrived less than two minutes later, Zimmerman was bleeding from the nose, had a swollen lip and had bloody lacerations to the back of his head.

I hope your're feeling better BT and you're not seriously injured. Speedy recovery.
