cavanami
Thunderstruck By: Erik Larson The story is told of Marconi and his efforts to make the first Atlantic wireless transmission. Much about his life and family. In parallel, a story of Dr. Crippen, who was hung for murdering his wife. The two stories intertwine as it was the wireless that played an important role in catching Dr. Crippen. ***1/2 A good read.
cavanami
41: A Portrait of My Father a 2014 book written by George W. Bush for his father George H. W. Bush. Not so interesting as it was just a complete white wash of the Bush family. George W tried too hard to paint his father as such a great person, it got sickening real quick. * No problem to give this one a miss, IMO. cavanami
The Andy Cohen Diary By: Andy Cohen If you are interested to read about a gay, Jew in New York and his activities, then this is the book for you! For me, it is just a cheap rip off of the Andy Warhol Dairy, which I am reading now and is much more interesting. Rating: * (and that is a gift!) cavanami
The Andy Warhol Daries Excellent! This guy really got out and about and hung with all the big names of the day. John Lennon, Yoko, Mick Jagger, Richard Gere, Cher, Diana Ross, etc etc etc For sure not boring like the Andy Cohen Diary. *** 1/
YimSiam
Cycle of Fear - Syria's Alawites in War and Peace A useful brief history of the Alawites and their rise in the 20th century, loosely organized around a concept of community cohesion that is not very compelling as a thread through the book, but doesn't detract too much from the book's interesting summary of Alawites and their survival techniques. YimSiam
Girlvert, Oriana Small Well, huh. There's a peek into a sweet young thing's life gone terribly awry, thanks to some fucked up emotional issues, a few platters of coke now and then, and the porn industry. Sure, there's something to be said for girl-empowered porn, but this is not it.
cavanami
Memory Man David Balducci Amos Decker took a life changing hit on the football field and after he recovered, he found that he had perfect memory...too perfect that he cannot forget memories he would like to forget! Easy, good read, a don't think too mutt fiction novel. *** 1/

She is the widow of US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. The 2014 film American Sniper was made about her husband's life. In the movie she is portrayed by Sienna Miller. Excellent read!
